[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 속초시는 지난 3월 4일과 5일에 일어난 동해안 대형산불로 강릉, 동해, 삼척 및 경북 울진이 ‘특별재난지역’으로 선포된 가운데 김철수 속초시장 외 직원들은 4개 시군의 피해 주민들을 돕기 위한 성금을 전달할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

속초시에 따르면 지난 2019년도 4월 속초시가 겪었던 산불의 아픔을 잊지 못하고 있는 상황에서 인근 지자체의 산불 소식을 접하고 너무나도 안타까운 마음을 떨칠 수 없다면서, 직원 모두 십시일반의 마음으로 실질적 도움이 될 수 있도록 모금을 하고, 작지만 성의를 보태고자 피해 지자체에 성금 각 300만원을 전달하기로 했다고 전했다.

성금은 정성훈 부시장을 비롯해 국장단에서 지자체를 직접 방문하여 전달할 계획이며, 속초시 관계자는 “피해를 경험해 본 입장이어서 저절로 심정이 헤아려지며, 당장 주민들에게 어떤 말로도 위로가 되지 않겠지만, 위기에서도 희망을 잃지 않았으면 하는 마음과 함께 복구가 하루 빨리 이루어져 어서 정상적인 생활로 복귀할 수 있도록 진심으로 바란다”고 말했다.
