[김현우 기자 = 속초] 속초시가 문화체육관광부와 한국문화관광연구원이 주관해 152개 기초지자체를 대상으로 평가 발표하는 ‘2021 지역관광발전지수 동향’ 분석결과 ‘관광발전지역’(1등급)에 선정됐다고 4일 밝혔다. 

2019년에 이어 2회 연속으로 선정되어 대한민국 대표 관광도시로서의 경쟁력을 다시 한번 입증했다.

지역관광발전지수는 2015년부터 2년 주기로 조사해 관광기반시설이 잘 갖추어져 있는지, 관광객이 얼마나 많이 방문하는지, 관광을 위한 정책적 노력이 활발하게 진행되고 있는지 등을 종합적이고 객관적으로 판단하는 지수다. 

특히 이번에는 기존 공급 자원 중심의 지수에서 관광객에게 지역 관광의 매력으로 작용하는 요소를 반영해 발표한 지수로 1등급 선정에 더욱 의미가 깊다.

또한, 2019년도 조사에 이어 두 번째 1등급을 받은 지자체는 속초시를 포함해 6개 지자체뿐으로 속초시는 관광인프라 개선, 인적역량 항목에서 특히 높은 점수를 받아 1등급에 선정됐다.

이병선 속초시장은 “속초시가 2회 연속 지역관광발전지수 1등급에 선정되었다는 것은 다시 찾는 매력적인 관광도시로 많은 관광객에게 사랑받는 증거”라며 “1등급 평가에 안주하지 않고 속초시 관광 발전을 위해 더욱 노력하겠다.”라고 말했다.
