[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동두천시의 생연2동·중앙동 도시재생활성화 사업이 경기도 도시재생위원회에서 원안 의결되면서 사업추진의 신호음을 알리며 본격 사업에 돌입한다고 밝혔다.

생연2동·중앙동 도시재생활성화 사업은 국토교통부 주관 공모사업으로 지난 9월 선정됐으며, 2022년부터 2025년까지 4년에 걸쳐 총 977억 5,500만원이 투입되는 사업이라고 했다.

동두천시는 ‘상생을 두드리는 도시재생 활력캠프’라는 비전아래 원도심의 체계적 관리를 위한 기반마련 및 복합거점 조성, 지역맞춤형 인프라 구축, 주거환경 개선 등을 실시할 계획이라고 했다.

주요사업은 생중계 상생플랫폼 조성, 원도심 주거환경 개선, 제일문화 플랫폼 조성, 시니어 활력센터 조성 , 老-老 케어 프로그램 운영 , 안전거리 조성 등 12개의 연계사업이 진행된다고 전했다.

동두천시는 이번 사업을 통해 원도심 주거환경의 혁신적인 개선과 시니어카페, 상생플랫폼 등 주민공동이용시설 활성화로 주민화합 및 자치역량의 강화를 기대하고 있다고 했다.

동두천시 관계자는 “생연2동·중앙동 도시재생활성화 사업은 그동안 인구유출과 물리적 환경 노후화 등으로 경쟁력을 잃어가던 원도심의 지역경쟁력을 회복시키고 이를 통해 침체된 상권과 지역의 활기를 되찾기 위해 추진되는 사업”이라며 “지역 주민들과 힘을 합쳐 성공적인 생연2동·중앙동의 도시재생을 이뤄내겠다”고 밝혔다.
