[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 포천시는 섬유 산업에서 발생하는 자투리 원단을 재활용하여 다양한 리사이클 상품을 제작하는 ‘섬유 자투리 원단 재활용 봉제사업’을 진행하고 있다고 밝혔다.

섬유 생산 공정 중 발생하는 연간 600여 톤의 폐기 원단은 보통 전량 소각되며, 환경오염 문제와 더불어 섬유기업 입장에서는 처리비용 부담도 있었다.

시는 이를 해결하기 위해 해마다 성장을 거듭하고 있는 펫 시장을 겨냥해 버려지는 원단을 활용한 ‘섬유 자투리 원단 재활용 봉제사업’을 시범사업으로 시작했고, 지난해 6월 경기섬유원자재센터에 봉제센터를 설치하고 펫 리사이클 상품 브랜드 ‘Recho-save the earth’(리코-지구를 살리자)를 만들었다.

지난 7월 29일에는 사업의 일환으로 자투리 원단을 활용해 ‘작업용 팔토시’ 1,000개를 제작해 읍면동에 배부했다. 작업용 팔토시는 기능성 쿨 원단으로 제작했으며, 2,000개를 추가 생산해 배부할 예정이다.

시 관계자는 “섬유 자투리 원단 재활용 봉제 사업은 관내 섬유 기업의 환경 비용 절감과 일자리 창출에 도움이 되므로 더욱 확대해 나갈 예정이다. 판매 수입은 사업에 재투입해 작업용 토시, 농사용 잡초 방지 덮개 등 다양한 제품을 개발해 지역발전에 이바지하는 사업으로 발전시켜 나가겠다.”고 말했다.
