[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 10일 동두천시는 매년 폐기 처리되는 2만 여개의 폐현수막 지지대(목재)를 관내 두드림장애인학교에서 운영 중인 공방의 재료로 전량 재활용할 수 있도록 제공하고 있다고 밝혔다.

수거된 폐현수막 중 천 부분은 소각처리로 인한 환경오염 방지를 위해  장바구니, 쓰레기수거용 마대, 재활용 분리수거함, 앞치마 등으로 다양하게 활용방안이 있었으나 현수막 지지대로 사용된 목재부분은 전량 폐기되어 왔다고 했다.

동두천시는 폐기되는 지지대(목재) 재활용 방안으로 두드림장애인학교 공방 목공예 재료로 제공함으로써 자원순환을 통한 예산절감, 장애인 직업재활훈련, 환경오염방지 등 일석삼조의 효과를 거둘 것으로 기대하고 있다고 전했다.

두드림장애인학교 교장 정진호는 “시의 적극적인 지원으로 공방을 개설하여 현재 보산동 학교공방에서 학생들이 폐현수막 지지대를 재활용한 다육화분받침대 등의 작품을 제작 판매하고 있으며, 학생들의 직업재활훈련에 많은 도움이 될 것”이라며 “자원재활용에 우리 학교와 학생들이 일익을 담당하게 되어 매우 기쁘게 생각하며, 시의 지원에 감사하다”고 말했다. 

한편, 오영준 건축과장은 “폐자원에 새로운 가치를 더하고 환경을 살리며, 자원재활용을 통한 민관협력 사례로 자리매김 할 수 있도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.
