[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 원주시는 민선8기 원강수 원주시장의 주요 공약 사업 중 하나인 ‘초등학생 교육비 1인당 10만 원 지급’을 위한 사전 준비절차에 착수했다고 밝혔다.

「원주시 청소년 꿈이룸 지원사업(가칭)」으로 추진되는 이 사업은 학부모에게 경제적 부담을 덜어주고 학생들에게 교육의 기회를 제공하기 위해 초등학생 1인당 10만 원을 매달 지원을 시작으로 대상을 중·고등학생으로 차츰 확대해나갈 계획이다.

원주시는 보건복지부 사회보장제도 협의 대상 사업으로 신설 승인 후 조례를 제정하고, 내년 예산에 반영해 상반기부터 지급하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.

원강수 시장은 “이 사업을 통해 아이들이 재능을 마음껏 펼칠 수 있는 기회를 주는 것은 물론, 지역 경제 부양 효과도 얻을 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.”라며, “내년 제도 시행을 목표로 사업을 면밀히 검토하고 내실 있게 준비하겠다.”라고 말했다.
