[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동두천시는 공중화장실이 부족한 시장, 상가, 관광지 등에 건물 소유자가 시민에게 개방을 동의한 민간화장실을 대상으로 2022년 신규 개방화장실 지정·운영한다고 밝혔다.

2022년 신규 개방화장실은 오는 2월 25일까지 대형마트, 공공기관, 공사, 주유소 등을 제외한 민간 남녀분리 화장실의 소유자 또는 관리자가 신청할 수 있으며, 이번에 지정된 개방화장실은 관리미흡 등의 취소사유가 발생하지 않는 한 향후 매년 별도의 신청 없이 자격이 유지된다고 했다. 

신청된 화장실은 현장조사를 통해 오는 3월 중 10개소를 지정할 예정이며, 지정된 시설에는 4월 중 화장지 및 방향제 등 관리용품이 지원되고, 또한 동두천시에서 시민이 알아보기 쉽도록 안내표지판도 설치한다고 전했다.

동두천시 관계자는 “시민들이 자주 이용하는 민간 화장실이 개방화장실로 거듭날 수 있도록 노력하고, 깨끗하고 안전하게 관리될 수 있게 지속적으로 개방화장실 운영 실태를 점검할 계획이다.”라고 말했다.
