[김현우 기자 = 가평] 서태원 군수가 6.1지방선거 과정에서 핵심 공약으로 내세웠던 공공의료 확충을 위한 총력전을 펼칠 것을 예고했다. 

 

가평군은 경기의료원 가평병원 유치를 위해 오는 7일부터 12월 16일까지 40일 동안 온·오프라인 군민 서명 운동을 전개한다고 4일 밝혔다. 

 

앞서 가평군은 지난 10월 26일 ‘가평군 4분기 사업발주계획’을 통해 약 1억 5천만 원의 사업비를 투자해 경기도 의료원 설립(유치) 타당성 조사 연구용역에 들어갈 것을 예고했다. 

 

지난 지방선거 당시 김동연 경기도지사가 균형발전을 위해 경기 동북부에 지방의료원을 설립을 약속한 만큼 가평군에 유치할 수 있도록 타당성 등을 선제적으로 조사하겠다는 것이다.

 

또, 경기의료원 유치가 무산될 경우를 대비해 가평 지역 공공의료 시설 확충에 대한 구체적 실현 방안 등도 검토하겠다는 계획을 세운 것이다. 

 

경기도는 현재까지는 경기 동북부 지역에 지방의료원 설립에 대한 구체적 방안을 마련하지 않고 있는 것으로 파악된다. 

 

본지와 통화한 경기도 공공의료과 관계자는 “경기도 의료원 설립은 김동연 경기도지사님이 후보 시절 공약으로 내세운 것이다. 올해 12월에서 내년 1월 사이로 의료원 공약 확정이 되면, 그때부터 의견 수렴, 부지 조사, 연구용역 등 계획이 진행될 예정이라 현재는 정해진 계획이나 방향은 없다.”라고 말했다. 

 

한편, 가평군은 경기도에 주민들의 의견을 수렴해 공공의료 시설 확충에 대한 당위성을 전달한다는 취지에서 서명 운동을 계획했다. 

 

현재 가평군에 등록된 의료시설은 병원 3개소, 요양병원 4개소, 의원 56개소다. 이렇듯 열악한 의료시설로 인해 가평군민들은 진료를 위해 타 지역을 방문해야 하며, 전문 의료시설 부족 문제로 인해 주민 불편이 가중되고 있다.

 

특히, 산부인과(분만실), 소아청소년과 등의 민간 의료기관이 없어, 주민들이 응급환자 및 신생아 출생, 소아청소년 진료·입원을 위해 다른 지역(강원도 춘천, 남양주, 구리, 서울)의 의료기관을 이용하고 있어, 군민들이 의료비 이외 이동에 따른 많은 시간과 추가 비용이 발생하는 등 어려움을 겪고 있다.

가평군은 오는 7일부터 시작되는 서명 운동을 온오프라인을 병행해 진행할 방침이다. 가평군청 인터넷 홈페이지와 가평군청 민원실, 읍·면사무소, 보건소, 보건지소, 보건진료소에 비치된 서명부를 비치하고 주민들의 동참을 독려하겠다는 내용이다. 

 

현재 김동연 지사가 내세운 경기 북부 지방의료원 설치를 위해 지자체들은 치열하게 경쟁하고 있는 것으로 조사된다. 가평군도 2회 방문을 통해 의료원 유치 타당성을 설명한 것으로 알려진다.
