[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 경기도가 평택과 연천 지역에서 운영 중인 ‘경기도 야생동물구조관리센터’의 야생동물 구조 건수가 5월 들어 급증하고 있다고 29일 밝혔다.

도가 집계한 자료에 따르면 올해 4월말 기준 573건의 야생동물이 구조됐고, 5월 한 달 동안 구조된 야생동물의 구조 건수는 345건에 달하며, 이는 올해 전체 야생동물 구조 건수 918건의 37.6%에 해당한다.

5월 한 달간 구조된 야생동물을 구조 원인별로 분류하면 어미를 잃은 새끼가 173건(조류 165건, 포유류 8건)으로 5월 구조 건수의 50.1%를 차지했다. 뒤이어 건물 유리창과의 충돌로 다쳐 구조된 건수가 70건(20.3%)이었다. 

5월부터 시작해 7월까지 새끼 동물이 많이 구조되는 것은 매년 반복되는 현상으로 이는 봄철 공원이나 아파트 단지 수풀에서 ‘이소(離巢. 새의 새끼가 자라 둥지에서 떠나는 일)’ 단계의 날지 못하는 어린 새를 발견하고 신고하는 경우가 많기 때문이다.

박경애 동물복지과장은 “어린 동물을 발견했을 때 즉각 구조를 하려는 것보다 주변에 어미가 있는지 등을 살펴보는 것이 중요하다”라며 “급증하는 야생동물 구조에 대응하기 위해 평택, 연천 센터에서 최선을 다하고 있다”라고 말했다.
