[김현우 기자 = 가평] 25일 가평군이 '2025~2026년 경기도 종합체육대회' 개최지로 최종 결정됐다. 

이에 따라 2025년 4~5월중 체육대회와 2026년 9~10월중 생활체육대축전이 연이어 개최되며, 3~4일 대회기간에는 31개 시․군 2만여 명이 참여해 20여개 넘는 종목에서 경합을 벌인다.

서 군수는 지난해 12월부터 군의회 최정용 의장 및 의원, 임광현 도의원을 비롯해 군 체육회 및 장애인 체육회와 함께 도 종합체육대회 유치 추진단을 일찌감치 출범하고 부서간 협업을 이뤄 왔다.

또한, 지난 1월, 김동연 도지사를 예방해 시설, 환경, 교통, 열정 등 본 대회를 개최할 수 있는 충분한 인프라가 준비되어 있다며 개최 필요성을 전달했었다.

여기에 유명체육인 및 기관단체의 유치결의 릴레이 행사와 더불어 전체 인구의 20%가 넘는 유치지지 서명운동 등은 1천400만 경기도민이 함께 즐길 수 있는 성공적인 대회 개최에 힘을 실어주었다.

가평군은 역대 대회 중, 가장 모범적이고 성공적인 대회가 될 수 있도록 TF팀을 구성하고 체육기반시설 및 각종 인프라 구축 등 대회 준비에 만전을 기울여 나갈 방침이다.

서태원 군수는  “가평군민 모두가 함께 한 도전이었기에 경기도 종합체육대회 유치가 가능했다”며 “최고․최상의 대회와 힐링․행복을 선물해 가평군이 경기도 균형발전과 더 큰 변화의 중심이 되어 나가겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 가평군은 경기도 종합체육대회 개최로 300억 원 이상의 경제유발효과가 있는 것으로 예상돼 침체된 지역경제에 큰 파급효과를 기대하고 있다.

경기도 종합체육대회는 2017년 이후 한 해에 종합체육대회를 한 개최지에서 모두 열었던 ‘단년도 동시 개최방식’을 2023년부터 ‘양해년도 분산 개최 방식’으로 변경해 경기도 체육진흥협의회(위원장 김동연 도지사)에서 개최지를 결정하고 있다.
