봄철 발생하는 강풍으로 산불의 위험이 높은 계절적 요인에 이번 겨울은 유난히 가물어 산불의 피해가 컸고, 삼척 산불로 지난 3월 4일 삼척시 원덕읍 1,253ha가 소실되며 입목피해 79억, 소공원 3억, 농림시설 4천 1백만 원, 가로수 6억 원, 산림자원을 활용하여 생계를 이어가는 많은 주민들에게 돌이킬 수 없는 피해가 발생하였다고 전했다.

가평 역시 전체 면적의 70% 이상이 산지이며 가평군 대표 특산물인 잣을 생산하는 잣나무가 많아 산불이 발생할 경우 큰 피해가 발생하며, 가평군은 지난 3월 9일 야산에서 발생한 산불을 3시간 만에 진화하며 큰 피해가 발생하지는 않았다고 했다. 

가평군은 “화마로 인해 고통받고 있는 이재민들의 아픔에 동참하고 피해주민들의 빠른 일상회복에 도움이 되기를 바란다.”고 전했다.
