[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 포천시는 변화하는 기후에 대응하고 건강한 산림자원을 조성하기 위해 매년 정책숲가꾸기사업을 실시하고 있다고 밝혔다.

정책숲가꾸기사업은 조림목을 성공적으로 활착시키고 숲의 연령에 따라 단계별로 숲을 가꾸는 사업으로, 포천시는 올해 약 3억9천만 원을 투입해 산림 320ha에 큰나무·어린나무가꾸기, 조림지 풀베기, 덩굴제거 등을 진행했다고 전했다.

오는 2022년에는 약 10% 증가한 산림 355ha에 정책숲가꾸기 사업을 추진해 경제·환경적으로 가치 있는 국가자원으로 육성할 계획이며, 산불 예방 등 특색 있는 숲가꾸기 사업도 추진한다고 했다.

포천시는 문화재 등의 주변 임목 밀도조절과 부산물 수집을 통해 산불에 강한 건강한 숲을 조성할 예정이며, 주요 대상지는 포천향교, 화산서원, 이항복 선생묘, 옥병서원 등으로, 약 9,500만 원의 예산을 투입해 산불 예방 및 진화체계를 구축하고 문화재 주변 환경을 개선할 예정이고, 향후에는 탄약고 주변 산림으로 확대 실시할 계획이라고 했다.

한탄강은 지난해 7월 유네스코로부터 세계지질공원으로 인증받은 포천의 대표 관광지로, 숲 조성공간인 관인면 중리 572-1번지 일대는 지질명소인 전망대, 한탄강 하늘다리 등의 관광자원이 위치한 곳으로, 포천시는 편백ㆍ화백ㆍ자작나무 각 1,000본씩을 식재해 자연과 함께 살아 숨쉬는 쾌적한 휴식공간을 조성할 예정이라고 했다.
