[김준호 기자=삼척시] 삼척시 가곡영농조합법인이 위탁운영을 맡은 가곡유황온천장의 운영 준비가 마무리됨에 따라, 시범운영 거쳐 정식 오픈을 준비한다는 계획이다.

위탁법인에 따르면, 시범운영 기간 수용 가능 인원은 하루 평균 200~300명 정도로, 요일별로 읍면동을 배분하여 좀 더 쾌적하게 가곡 유황온천장을 체험할 수 있도록 한다는 계획이다.

시범운영 기간은 오는 3월 22일~ 3월 30일(목)까지 기간 중 7일 동안 삼척시민을 대상으로 운영되며, 3월 26일과 3월 27일은 제외된다. 또한, 시범운영 기간 동안은 오전 10시부터 오후 5시까지 2층 온천장만 운영하며 그 외 스파 등의 시설은 입장이 제한된다.

가곡 유황온천은 약 170억 원의 사업비를 들여 지난 2023년 2월 완공되어 준공식을 가졌으며, 가곡면 탕곡리 509-3번지 일원에 대지 6,365㎡, 건축면적 1,073㎡ 지상 4층 규모의 시설로 지어졌다.

가곡영농조합법인은 이번 시범운영을 시작으로 3월 말까지 내부 운영방침 확립 및 시설 정비를 완료하고 본격적으로 오픈 준비에 박차를 가해, 4월 초에 가곡 유황온천 정식 오픈에 들어갈 계획이다.

신명석 관광개발과장은 “가곡 유황온천은 삼척 남부권역의 침체된 지역 경기 활성화와 지역 간 균형발전을 위한 초석으로, 인근 지자체 및 기관·단체 등을 대상으로 한 홍보 활동을 통해 삼척시 명품 유황온천 활성화를 통한 관광산업 부흥에 이바지하겠다.”고 말했다.
