[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강원경찰청에서는 지난 6월 15일 홍천군 일원에서 홍천경찰서, 강원도청, 홍천군청, 한국도로공사와 합동으로 음주운전 단속과 병행하여 교통 과태료, 자동차세, 통행료 등을 미납한 차량에 대해 일제 단속에 나섰다고 밝혔다.

고액·상습 체납 차량은 여러 기관에서 과태료 등이 체납되어 차량이 압류된 경우가 대부분이나, 각 기관별 단속 시스템이 서로 연결되어 있지 않아 개별 기관의 체납액만을 징수하고 있는 실정이었다고 했다. 

이번 합동단속 대상 체납 차량은 ▲교통 과태료 30만 원 이상, ▲자동차세 2회 이상, ▲통행료 20회 이상 등의 미납으로 각 기관에 압류된 차량이라고 했다.

단속은 기관별 번호판 자동판독시스템이 장착된 차량과 휴대용 조회기를 이용해 음주 검문 차량에 대한 체납 사실 여부를 확인하는 방식으로 진행됐으며, 이날 합동단속 결과 체납차량 총 6대를 적발해 총 264만 원을 현장에서 징수했다고 전했다.

강원경찰청 관계자는 이번 합동단속은 ‘음주운전 및 체납 차량은 반드시 단속된다’는 경각심을 제고하기 위해 추진되었는데 유관기관과 지속적 협업을 통해 도 전역으로 합동단속을 확대할 방침인 바, ‘교통 과태료, 세금 등은 반드시 납부해야 한다’는 성숙한 시민의식을 가져주길 바란다고 밝혔다.
