[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강원경찰청에서는 지난 3년간 코로나19로 개장하지 못했던 동해안 해수욕장이 3년 만에 개장하면서 관광객이 급증할 것으로 예상되는 가운데, 휴가 분위기에 편승한 음주운전 및 음주 교통사고 방지를 위해 7월 6일부터 오는 8월 28일까지 8주간「여름 피서철 음주운전 집중단속」을 추진한다고 밝혔다.

연중 여름철(7∼8월) 음주운전 교통사고 발생 비중이 가장 높은 수치를 보이고 있고, 코로나 발생 이후 여름철 음주 교통사고가 8.2% 증가했는데, 특히 본격적인 피서철 성수기인 7월 말에 음주 교통사고가 가장 많이 발생하는 것으로 분석됐다.

이에 경찰은 여름 피서철 음주운전 집중단속을 추진함에 있어 도내 지역별 단속시간을 자율적으로 정하도록 하고, 특히 최근 낮 시간대 음주운전 사고 비율이 증가함에 따라 낮(晝間)에도 단속을 실시할 예정이다.
