[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 12일 양주시자원봉사센터는 양주시청 상황실에서 ‘사단법인 양주시자원봉사센터 창립총회’를 개최했다고 밝혔다. 

이날 창립총회는 창립 발기인 15명이 참석한 가운데 법인설립 취지문 채택, 정관승인, 사업계획 보고, 예산승인, 이사장·임원 선출 등 법인설립을 위한 주요 안건을 의결하는 순으로 진행했다고 했다. 

사단법인 양주시 자원봉사센터 초대 이사장에는 이성호 양주시장이 선임됐고, 이어진 총회에서는 오는 7월 1일 사단법인 정식 출범을 위한 제반 절차를 논의하며 예정대로 차질 없이 추진해 나가기로 합의했다고 했다. 

앞서 센터는 지난 4월 양주시장을 비롯해 양주시여성단체협의회장, 새마을운동양주시지회장, 양주시장애인단체총연합회장, 양주시사회복지사협회장 등 자원봉사단체, 사회복지기관 및 수요처, 학계, 법조계, 기업 등 15명의 분야별 대표 전문가들로 구성한 창립준비위원회 발기인 모임을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

조학수 부시장은 “사단법인 전환을 계기로 자원봉사의 민간영역을 확대하고 시민이 주가 되는 자원봉사 문화 구축 등 봉사활동 가치 실현에 선도적 역할을 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 이웃사랑을 실천하는 선한 영향력이 시 전체에 널리 퍼질 수 있도록 최대한 지원하며 적극 협력해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

박종성 센터장은 “5만여 자원봉사자들의 자긍심을 높이는 민간주도 자원봉사 활성화의 기반 마련을 목표로 법인 출범을 새로운 도약의 기회로 삼겠다”며 “전문성과 자율성, 공신력을 갖춘 주체적인 기관으로서 사회복지 네트워크 확대에 기여해 인생의 가치를 더해주는 자원봉사센터로 거듭날 것”이라고 포부를 밝혔다.

한편 양주시자원봉사센터는 시 운영으로 1998년 5월 1일 개소한 이래 자원봉사자들의 활동을 지원·장려하는 지역 거점 역할을 수행해왔으며 현재 5만 7천여 명의 자원봉사자가 등록돼 활동 중으로 점차 확대되고 있는 자원봉사 영역의 변화에 맞춰 시민 주도의 자원봉사 문화를 이끌어 나갈 것으로 주목받고 있다고 전했다.
