[남상훈 기자 = 원주] 오는 30일 북부지방산림청과 원주시는 다가오는 국토녹화 50주년 및 제78회 식목일을 맞아 원주시 댄싱공연장 일원에서 ‘2023년 희망나무 나누어주기’를 공동 개최한다고 밝혔다.

나무 나누어주기 행사는 산림청 ‘내 나무 갖기 캠페인’의 일환으로, 평소 나무를 직접 심고 키우기 어려운 시민들이 식목일을 맞아 보다 쉽게 내 나무를 심고 가꿀 수 있도록 묘목을 무료로 나누어 주는 행사이다.

원주시 산림조합, 원주시 조경협의회, 강원일보사가 후원하는 이번 행사는 시민들의 선호도가 높은 유실수, 다육식물 위주로 총 16,400그루의 묘목을 1인당 9그루씩 선착순으로 무료 제공할 예정이다. 다만 묘목 수종별로 수량이 상이하며, 상황에 따라 1인당 제공되는 수량이 달라질 수 있다.

아울러 이번 행사에는 봄철 산불 위험에 대한 경각심을 고취시키기 위한 산불예방캠페인 및 임가 소득보전을 위한 임야대상 농업경영체 등 홍보 활동도 병행해 산림청 정책에 대한 국민들의 공감대를 형성하기 위한 노력도 이루어졌다.

임하수 북부지방산림청장은 “이번 행사를 통해 시민들이 내 집주변에 내 나무를 심고 가꾸면서 숲의 가치와 소중함을 새롭게 인식하는 계기가 되기를 기대한다”라고 말했다.
