[남상훈 기자 = 의정부] 김동근 의정부시장이 5월 3일 환경기초시설 설치 우수사례 검토를 위해 평택 에코센터와 아산 환경과학공원을 방문했다고 밝혔다.

평택 에코센터 및 아산 환경과학공원은 폐기물처리시설 및 다양한 주민편익시설로 설치된 복합환경시설이다. 특히 주민과 상생하며 안정적으로 운영되고 있어, 주민과 함께하는 공간이자 지역의 랜드마크가 된 시설로 평가 받는다.

한편, 김 시장은 지난 1월에도 지속가능한 환경과 사회를 구축하기 위해 하남 유니온타워·파크에 방문하는 등 의정부시 폐기물처리시설 설치에 대해 구상 중이다.

김동근 시장은 “의정부시에는 자원회수시설을 비롯해 노후화된 폐기물처리시설의 현대화가 필요한 실정으로 성공적인 폐기물처리시설 설치를 위해서는 주민과 상생하는 방안에 대해 방문 시설들을 참고할 필요가 있다”고 말했다. 

그러면서 “의정부시의 지속가능한 환경과 사회를 이루기 위해서는 폐기물처리시설의 현대화와 함께 우리 시만의 특색있는 방안을 시민과 함께 강구·상생하는 등 주민 삶의 질을 높이는 데 주안점을 둬야한다”고 강조했다.
