[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 18일, 동두천시는 GTX-C노선 연장을 추진하고 있는 평택시를 방문하여 GTX-C노선 연장을 위한 협력 방안을 논의하고 GTX-C노선 연장이 확정될 때까지 상호 협력체계를 강화해 나가기로 했다고 밝혔다. 

동두천시와 평택시는 평택시청 2층 부시장실에서 양 시의 부시장과 실무진이 함께 만난 자리에서 그동안의 GTX-C노선 연장 업무 추진 경과 및 동향을 공유하고 향후 전략과 상호 연계 협력 방안에 대해 논의하였다고 했다.

시는 국토교통부와 우선협상대상자 간 ‘실시 협약’ 체결 절차를 지켜보며 사업시행자가 확정되는 시점에 맞춰 사업시행자와의 협상에 박차를 가하고, 국토교통부에는 좀 더 적극적으로 GTX-C노선 동두천 연장을 요구할 예정이라고 전했다. 

정순욱 동두천 부시장은 “GTX는 경기도와 서울의 심장부를 출·퇴근 생활권으로 만드는 혁신이며 GTX-C노선 연장이야말로 경기도 북쪽과 남쪽 끝에 위치한 동두천시와 평택시를 하나로 연결하는 벨트를 구축하는 것으로, 열악한 경기 북부지역에는 새로운 교통허브가 탄생되는 것을 의미한다”라며 “GTX-C노선이 남·북으로 연장될 때까지 평택시와 상호 협력체계를 굳건히 다져 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
