[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 10월 20일 양주시 회천3동 지역사회보장협의체는 국제로타리3690지구 양주로타리클럽이 추진하는 ‘사랑의 집수리’ 봉사활동에 참여해 구슬땀을 흘렸다고 밝혔다.

‘사랑의 집수리’ 봉사활동은 주택 노후로 일상생활에 어려움을 겪고 있으나 경제적 부담, 고령 등의 이유로 자체해결이 힘든 취약가구의 주거환경을 개선하는 사업이라고 했다. 

대상가구는 고령의 독거노인 가구로 열악한 주거환경에 노출된 어르신들의 안타까운 소식을 접한 협의체 위원들과 양주로타리클럽 회원들이 집 청소, 도배, 노후된 싱크대와 식탁을 교체하고 전기공사 등을 통해 쾌적한 주거환경으로 탈바꿈에 나섰다고 전했다.

지원받은 한 어르신은 “벽지와 장판이 오래되고 깨끗하지 않아서 교체하고 싶어도 경제적으로 어려움이 있었는데 봉사자분들이 새집처럼 만들어줘서 감사하고 깨끗하게 유지하겠다”고 전했다.

윤여흥 회장은 “대상가구가 쾌적하고 깨끗해진 주거환경에서 지낼 수 있게 되어 보람된 시간이었다”며 “앞으로도 집수리 봉사를 비롯한 지역사회 봉사활동에 더욱 앞장서겠다”고 말했다.
