[김준호 기자 = 동해시] 세계적 경기 둔화로 수출에 빨간 불이 켜진 가운데 동해항을 통한 수출은 호조세가 지속되면서, 지난해 동해항 수출이 사상 최고치를 기록한 것으로 나타났다.

 

북방물류산업진흥원에 따르면, 2022년 동해항을 통한 수출액은 전년 대비 52.9% 증가한 8억 2,459만 달러를 기록, 연간 사상 최고치를 훌쩍 뛰어넘었다. 

 

이전 동해항의 수출액 최고기록은 2014년의 6억 6만 달러로 2022년에는 이를 137% 초과한 것이다.

 

2022년 우리나라 전체 수출이 9.4% 증가로 한자리 수 증가에 그치고 강원도 수출의 경우 0.7% 증가로 사실상 제자리걸음을 한 것과 비교하면 동해항의 수출 신장세는 뚜렷하다.

 

전국 주요 항만과 비교해 봐도 동해항의 수출 호조는 눈에 띄는데 동해항보다 수출 증가율이 높은 곳은 국가 차원에서 항만개발에 집중 투자하고 있는 부산신항과 여수항 등 2곳에 불과하다.

 

동해항의 수출 호조는 전선, 시멘트, 합금철 등 탄탄한 항만 배후 산업 덕도 있지만 무엇보다 내외적 어려움 속에서도 북방경제권과의 물류망을 지속적으로 운영해온 것이 드디어 결실을 맺고 있다는 것이 지역사회의 평가다.

 

품목별 수출액을 보면 자동차가 2억 693만 달러를 기록해 처음으로 최대 수출품목으로 부상했으며, 해저케이블을 포함한 전선류가 1억 9,980만 달러로 뒤를 이었다. 

 

이어서 건설기계 등 중장비류가 1억 1,536만 달러, 합금철이 1억 3,675만 달러, 시멘트류가 9,284만 달러를 기록, 1억 달러 가까운 수출실적을 기록한 품목군이 5개, 100만 달러 이상의 수출 품목이 27개나 나오는 등 수출품 구성이 다양화돼 시멘트와 합금철에 특화된 항만이라는 기존 동해항 이미지를 일신하는 계기가 될 것으로 보인다.

 

 

국가별로 보면 3억 3,241만 달러를 수출한 러시아가 최대 수출국으로 부상했는데, 이는 전년도보다 920% 이상 증가한 것으로 2위인 미국의 1억 6,880만 달러, 3위인 대만의 1억 1,581만 달러보다 2배 이상 많은 수치다.

 

러시아와 우크라이나 간 전쟁으로 러시아 항로를 운영하던 대형 해운회사들이 러시아 취항을 중단하자 한.러.일 페리를 중심으로 동해~블라디보스토크 간 항로를 지속적으로 운영하고 있는 것이 화주들에게 새롭게 주목받으면서 러시아 수출이 급증한 것으로 풀이된다.

 

러시아 외에도 북방경제권 국가들에 대한 수출은 공통적으로 증가하고 있는데 동해항 수출 상위 20개 국가에 포함된 북방경제권 국가들에 대한 수출 증가율을 보면 키르기즈스탄 1,540%, 몽골 891%, 카자흐스탄 555%, 타지키스탄 416% 등으로 동해항이 북방교역의 전초기지 역할을 톡톡히 수행하고 있음을 보여주고 있다.

 

한편, 수출과 수입을 더한 동해항의 무역액 역시 34억 5,170만 달러를 기록해 사상 최고치를 갱신했는데, 국제 에너지 가격의 급등에 따라 동해항 수입액은 역대 최대인 26억 2,711만 달러를 기록했다.
