[김준호 기자=동해시] 동해시(시장 심규언)가 4계절 전지훈련과 스포츠대회 명소로 각광 받으면서 전국 체육인들의 명소로 유명세를 타고 있다.

겨울철 내륙지역에 비해 상대적으로 따뜻한 기온이 유지되고 있으며, 다양한 체육시설을 비롯해 숙박시설과 음식업소 등 잘 갖춰진 인프라는 전지훈련 최적지로서 큰 장점으로 꼽히고 있다.

지난해, 어려운 국내․외 경제상황 속에서도 25개의 국제·전국·도 단위 대회를 유치했으며, 축구, 야구, 하키, 유도, 사격 등 5개 종목에서 52개 전지훈련팀이 다녀갔다.

특히, 당구종목에서는 세계 최고 권위를 자랑하는 제74회 세계3쿠션 당구선수권대회와 동트는동해배 전국당구대회를 개최하여 스포츠 도시로서 위상을 높아져 동해시체육회 추산 총 110억여원의 파급효과를 내는 등 지역경제에 큰 버팀목이 되었다.

올해는 이미 19개의 전국단위 대회와 17개의 도단위 대회 유치를 확정했으며, 전국생활체육 유도대회와 복싱대회, 전국 춘․추계 하키대회, 전국 비치발리볼대회 등 굵직한 전국대회는 이미 수년째 지속적으로 개최해 오고 있다.

아울러, 외부환경으로부터 영향을 받지 않는 에어돔 시설 설치사업은 지난해  최종 선정 과정에서 탈락했던만큼, 올해 내실있는 준비를 통해 공모에  재도전 할 계획이다.

시는 에어돔 시설이 구축되면, 체육인프라 등 기존의 장점을 극대화하여 명실공히 전국 최고의 사계절 전지훈련 명소로 발돋움 할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

이선우 체육교육과장은 “올해 청소년체육문화센터, 해오름스포츠센터와 파크골프장 등 다양한 체육시설이 갖춰지면 각종 전지훈련과 스포츠 행사 등에 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
