[서종협 기자 = 태백시] 태백시(시장 이상호)는 오는 8월 완공을 목표로 1986년 완공된 재해위험교량인 절골교 개축공사를 추진 중에 있다고 밝혔다.

시는 2023년 4월부터 기존 교량을 철거하고 재난안전교부세 3.5억 등 사업비 총 8억 원을 투입하여 연장 22.1m, 폭 9.0m 규모로 개축 공사를 추진할 계획이다. 

공사는 지난 3월 21일 해빙기 공사 해제와 재착공하였으며, 3월 24일 실시한 주민설명회에서의 주민 건의사항을 최대한 수렴하여 8월 말까지 개축공사를 완료한다는 방침이다.

이상호 태백시장은 “절골교 개축공사가 완공되면 폭이 협소했던 교량이 확장되어 지역 주민들의 삶의 질이 크게 향상될 것으로 기대한다”라며, “주민 불편을 최소화하고 안전한 교량 개축을 위해 사업 추진에 만전을 다하겠다”라고 말했다.
