[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 13일 동해시는 2021 평생학습관 특성화 프로그램 마을 정원사 기초과정 교육을 마치고, 수강생 15명이 참석한 가운데 수료식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

정원사 양성 교육은 주민들에게 식물과 정원에 대한 이해를 높이고 정원을 통한 마을 공동체 의식 회복과 새로운 녹색 일자리를 창출하기 위해 마련됐다고 했다.

교육은 동해시와 강릉원주대학교 산학협력단 간 협약을 통해 지난 9월부터 2개월간 정원에 대한 이론을 비롯해 식물 이해, 식물 관리 및 실습 등의 기초과정으로 운영됐다고 했다.

향후 동해시는 마을정원사 양성 교육을 매년 추진할 방침으로, 이를 통해 양성한 정원사들과 함께 마을공동체 정원조성, 도시공원조성, 수목 관리 등 다양한 주민 참여 사업을 진행할 계획이라고 전했다.

전춘미 평생교육센터 소장은 “동해의 1호 마을정원사인 만큼 자부심을 갖고 앞으로 추진하는 각종 정원 만들기 도시녹화 정책, 공원 수목관리 등 다양한 사업에 참여를 부탁드린다”고 말했다.
