[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 10월 28일 양주시는 탄소중립 생활 실천을 위한 ‘청년도시농부 START-UP교육’ 2기 과정 수료식을 열고 16명의 수료생을 배출했다고 밝혔다.

이번 교육은 젊은 청년들이 농업공동체 활동 경험을 통해 미래의 도시농업을 체험해 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하고자 농업기술센터와 경동대학교 중등특수교육학과가 협력해 추진하게 됐다고 했다.

지난 9월 7일 첫 수업을 시작한 2기 과정은 코로나19 사회적 거리두기 지침에 따라 비대면 교육과 팀별 대표 6명을 대상으로 한 대면교육을 병행해 진행했다고 전했다. 

교육생들은 교내 자투리 공간에 공동농장 형태로 운영할 수 있는 기능성 텃밭상자와 노지에서의 작물 재배를 돕는 틀텃밭을 활용해 작물을 재배할 수 있는 친환경 실천 교육장으로 탈바꿈하는 등 체계적으로 작물을 관리하고 서로 소통하고 협력하며 도시농업의 가치를 높이고자 했는데, 특히 식물을 소재로 한 탄소중립실천 환경교육 콘텐츠를 교과과정으로 개발하기 위해 개인별, 팀별 프로젝트를 수행하며 도시농업이 지닌 자연학습적 가치와 자연에 대한 올바른 가치관 형성을 돕는 인과성에 주목하는 등 예비교원으로서 교육역량을 높이는 시간을 가졌다고 했다.

교육에 참여한 수강생은 “코로나19로 현장 참여에 어려움이 있어 아쉬웠지만, 식물을 직접 심고 가꾼 경험이 적은데 흙을 만지고 식물을 돌보는 것만으로도 힐링이 된다”며 “가능하다면 지속적으로 도시농업 교육에 참여하고 싶다”고 전했다.

양주시 농업기술센터 관계자는 “2022년에도 청년들을 대상으로 다양한 도시농업 프로그램을 개설할 계획이다”라며 “올해 추진한 청년도시농부 교육이 좋은 결과를 얻었으며 앞으로도 시민들의 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁한다”고 말했다.
