이날 협약식에는 양주시 환경관리과장, 경동대학교 산학협력단장, 대진대학교 총장, 신한대학교 그린에너지융합연구원 부원장 등 각 기관 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 지자체·대학 협력 기반 기후위기 극복과 탈 탄소사회로의 대전환에 선도적 역할 수행에 적극 협력하기로 합의했다고 전했다.

이번 업무협약은 생활 속 체감 가능한 탄소중립 도시로의 전환을 위해 지역 특성과 여건을 토대로 관학협력 사업을 성공적으로 수행하기 위한 첫걸음이라고 했다.

양 기관은 협약에 따라 탄소중립을 위한 국민적 합의와 공감대 확산을 위한 상호 소통, 경기북부 지속 가능한 발전과 탄소중립 실현을 위한 사업발굴·지원, 환경 관련 신산업·일자리 창출을 위한 전폭적 지원 등을 상호 공유·협력하게 된다고 했다.

또한 기타 상호 협의에 따라 정하는 부문별 추진 과제를 실행하기 위해 대학의 전문지식과 인적자원 활용을 통한 지역인재 양성 등 성공적인 협력을 위한 공동의 보조를 맞출 계획이라고 했다. 

양주시 관계자는 “정부의 2050 대한민국 탄소중립 선언과 그린뉴딜 추진 정책에 발맞춰 행정과 교육의 최일선에 있는 양주시와 지역대학이 선도적 역할을 수행하게 될 것”이라며 “활발한 상호협력을 통해 지속가능한 발전과 환경 관련 우수인재 육성에 기여함으로써 지역 혁신 성장의 거점 역할을 수행해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
