[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 1월 10일 동두천시는 동두천 자연휴양림 활성화를 위해 추진 중인 ‘동두천 자연휴양림 세미나실 건립’사업이 순조롭게 진행되고 있다고 밝혔다. 

‘동두천 자연휴양림 세미나실 건립’은 동두천 자연휴양림의 비수기 활용 및 단체객을 위한 행사, 워크샵 등에 활용 가능한 다양한 규모의 세미나실 조성과 놀자숲, 치유의 숲 등의 개장으로 증가되는 방문객 수요에 대응하기 위한 객실을 세미나실 상부에 조성하는 사업으로, 동두천시는 이를 위해 2020년 9월 ‘동두천 자연휴양림 세미나실 건립 기본 및 실시설계용역’을 착수, 16개월의 과업수행을 통해 작년 12월 23일 용역 최종보고회를 개최하는 등 활발히 사업을 추진하고 있다고 했다.  

동두천 자연휴양림 세미나실은 지상3층 연면적 2,858㎡ 규모로 약 105억 원의 예산이 투입될 예정이며, 1층은 150~200인실 규모의 세미나실과 30∼50인실 규모의 중소 세미나실로 구성되어 있고, 2층과 3층은 6~8인용 숙박실 16실로 구성되어 있으며, 공사는 오는 3월 착공하여 2023년 하반기 준공 예정이라고 전했다.

동두천시 관계자는 “동두천 자연휴양림 세미나실 건립으로 연간 약 4만5천명의 이용객을 유치할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다”며 “동두천 시민에게 충분한 세미나 공간 제공뿐 아니라 다양한 단체 및 관광객 유치로 동두천 자연휴양림의 활성화와 더불어 지역경제 활성화에도 도움이 될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
