[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난해 12월 1일 전 속초시 부시장 이원찬은 속초시 충혼탑을 참배하는 동시에 전국 동시 지방선거에서 국민의 힘 소속으로 속초시장 출마선언을 했으며, 오는 6월에 진행하는 지방선거를 위해 본격적인 행보에 나섰다.

이원찬 예비후보는 속초시의 새로운 도약을 위해 ‘속초시 무한 성장프로젝트’ 7가지 중점 사업을 발표했다.

공약으로는 기후변화에 대비한 사업을 추진, 4차 산업혁명에 따른 일자리 확보, 동서고속철과 동해북부선 개통 및 북극항로의 새로운 열림에 대비한 사업 추진, 자연 친화형 관광의 욕구 충족 위한 상품개발 추진, 양대철도의 역세권 개발을 속초 도시개발의 새로운 모델 제시, 시민 모두가 진정으로 삶이 행복한 속초시 만들기, 물 자립 도시 만들기 등을 내세웠다.

이원찬 예비후보는 “부동산 양극화로 시민들의 마음을 분열과 갈등으로 어지럽히는 속초시의 행정을 보면 마음이 아파 속초시를 더 이상 부끄럽게 만들 수 없다고 생각했다. 35년의 행정 경험을 살려 갈라진 시민의 마음을 하나로 모으고 속초시를 최고의 관광지로 다시 세우겠다. 정치신인으로서 야무지게 도전하고 당당하게 속초시민의 부름을 받을 수 있도록 노력하겠다.”고 말했다.
