농업기술센터와 경동대학교 호텔조리학과가 협력해 추진한 이번 교육은 지난 3월 30일을 시작으로 개인별 상자텃밭에 상추, 토마토, 감자 등을 직접 심고 가꾸어 수확하고 수확물을 요리해 수강생에게 건강한 먹을거리에 대한 소중함도 느끼는 과정으로 진행됐다고 했다.

특히 양주시는 코로나19 사회적 거리두기 준수에 따라 수업 1회 취소와 비대면 교육 2회로 전환하는 등 차질 없이 교육을 마무리했다고 전했다.

수강생들은 각자의 텃밭을 돌보면서 여가 활동과 공동체 활동을 체험할 수 있어 교육에 대한 높은 열의를 보였으며 주변사람들에게 이번 교육에 대한 긍정적인 인식을 심어주었다고 했다. 

수료생 대표는 “생애 처음으로 식물을 심고 수확하는 경험을 했으며 무엇보다 수확한 식물을 요리에 활용할 수 있어서 뜻깊은 시간이었다”며 “상자텃밭을 통해 잘 볼 수 없었던 친구를 만나고 소통하는 기회가 되었으며 교육을 바탕으로 시 도시농업활성화에도 기여하고 싶다”고 말했다.
