[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 속초시는 오는 14일 오전 10시 청초호수공원 분수대광장 속초평화의 소녀상 앞에서 시민과 함께하는 일본군‘위안부’피해자 기림의 날 기념식을 갖는다고 전했다.

기림의 날이란 일본군‘위안부’문제를 국내외에 알리고 피해자를 기리기 위해 지정된 국가 기념일이다. 

1991년 8월 14일, 일본군‘위안부’피해자 고(故) 김학순(1924~1997) 할머니가 기자회견을 통해 일본군‘위안부’피해사실을 처음으로 공개 증언한 것을 계기로 2012년부터 국제사회에서 세계 일본군‘위안부’기림일로 정해졌으며 2017년 법률개정을 통해 대한민국 국가기념일로 지정, 올해 다섯번째 기념식을 갖게됐다.

이날 행사는‘평화 그리고 인권이 숨쉬는 속초’라는 주제로 진행되며, 이병선 속초시장, 김명길 속초시의회 의장을 비롯한 각 사회단체 관계자분들과 일반시민 등 모두 100여 명이 참여한다.

기념식은 할머니들의 명예와 인권을 위해 인권운동가로 일생을 바친 분들을 위한 추모 묵념과 헌화로 진행될 예정이며, 이어 학생대표의 편지글 낭독 및 나비 퍼포먼스 행사, 응원메시지 작성하기, 작품전시회, 증언집 배포 등 시민참여를 위한 자리를 마련했다.

한편, 현재 정부에 등록된 일본군‘위안부’피해자는 240명으로 229명이 이미 세상을 떠나셨고, 11명만이 생존해 있다.
