[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 의정부시는 지난 14년간 지역을 대표하는 어린이도서관으로 자리잡은 어린이도서관을 개방형 복합문화공간으로 조성하기 위해 리모델링 중이며 오는 상반기 개관을 위해 최선을 다하고 있다고 밝혔다.

 

어린이도서관은 2020년 9월 문화체육관광부 문화시설 확충사업에 선정되어 총사업비 19억 4천만 원을 확보해 영어원서 특화도서관이자 개방형 복합문화공간으로 조성하고 있다고 했다.

 

어린이도서관은 휴관 중에도 도서관 이용자의 불편을 최소화하기 위해 무인 반납함을 상시 개방하고 상호대차를 통한 신간도서 대출서비스를 운영하고 있으며, 또한 영유아 대상 북스타트 책꾸러미 신청 및 배부가 기존 공공도서관뿐만 아니라 작은 도서관에서도 가능하도록 확대된 서비스를 제공하고 온라인 플랫폼을 활용한 메타버스 어린이도서관 오픈 및 진로특강·영어특화프로그램 등 다양한 프로그램을 운영할 방침이라고 전했다.

 

책 읽는 도시 의정부시가 2011년부터 진행 중인 북스타트 사업은 ‘책과 함께 인생을 시작하자’라는 뜻으로 아기에게 책 꾸러미를 선물하고 책 놀이 프로그램을 운영해 책을 가까이할 수 있도록 도와주고자 하는 사회적 독서문화 운동이라고 했다.

 

의정부에 거주하는 도서관 회원 영유아에게 선물하는 책꾸러미는 그림책 2권과 스케치북, 퍼즐 등이 들어 있고, 매년 실시하는 북스타트 사업 만족도 조사에서도 이용자의 90% 이상이 만족한다는 좋은 반응을 지속적으로 얻고 있으며, 특히 2022년 어린이도서관 재개관을 맞아 기존 6개 공공도서관 ‘어린이·과학·정보·미술·음악·가재울 등’을 통한 책꾸러미 신청 및 배부 서비스를 13개 작은 도서관에서도 가능하도록 사업을 확대 추진할 예정이라고 했다.

 

작은 도서관에서 책꾸러미 신청 및 배부가 가능해지면 출생신고 후 바로 주민센터 내 작은 도서관에 방문하여 책 꾸러미를 수령할 수 있어 북스타트 사업이 크게 활성화할 것으로 기대가 되고 있다고 전했다.

의정부시 어린이도서관은 메타버스 플랫폼 제페토에서의 소통 채널 개설을 위해 도서관 자체적으로 가상공간 맵을 제작해 현재 막바지 단계에 있으며, 제페토 본사 승인 과정을 거쳐 올해 상반기 중으로 의정부어린이도서관 메타버스 별관을 공개할 예정이라고 했다.

 

메타버스 도서관은 이용자들이 제페토 아바타로 접속해 어린이도서관 건물을 테마로 구축한 가상공간에서 각종 프로그램 및 전시 정보를 실시간으로 제공받을 수 있으며, 추후 메타버스 채널에서 진행할 도서관 행사는 실제 공간에는 없는 테마 공간을 만들어 활용할 계획으로 앞으로 이용자들의 많은 관심과 호응이 기대되고 있다고 전했다.

 

어린이도서관은 초등학생들에게 직업에 대한 다양한 정보를 제공하고 과학과 디자인 분야의 직업활동을 체험하게 하는 진로 특강을 2019년부터 추진해 아이들과 학부모들에게 큰 호응을 얻고 있다고 했다.

 

과학 분야에서는 로봇 제작자와 VR 제작자 등 과학기술 변화로 4차 산업시대에 새롭게 생긴 직업에 대해 알아보고, 디자인 분야에서는 미니어처 조형물 제작자와 전통공예 디자이너 등 쉽게 접할 수 없는 생소한 분야의 직업까지 체험해볼 수 있게 하여 수업 참여도 및 만족도가 높았으며, 특히 초등학교 고학년을 대상으로 하는 이번 온라인 진로 특강은 애니메이션 기법을 활용한 광고 만들기 및 블루투스 기기 만들기 등 광고 크리에이터와 기계공학자라는 두 개의 직업을 심층 체험할 수 있도록 구성되어 있어 보다 전문적이고 체계적으로 진로 탐색을 할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다고 전했다.

어린이도서관은 재개관 및 15주년 기념행사로 작가 강연, 전시, 공연 등 다채로운 프로그램과 행사를 개최하는 한편 11,000권 이상의 다양한 영어원서를 보유한 강점을 살려 명실상부한 국내 최대 영어특화도서관으로 성장해 나갈 수 있는 기틀을 마련할 계획이라고 했다.
