[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 의정부시는 의정부시 대표 야외문화공간이자 시민들의 휴식공간인 상설야외무대가 리모델링을 마치고 산뜻한 새출발을 준비하고 있다고 밝혔다. 

의정로 80번길 18 일대 1천598.1㎡ 부지에 조성된 상설야외무대는 2002년 8월 준공, 현재까지 다양한 문화공연, 행사가 펼쳐졌고, 행사가 없는 날에도 자전거를 타거나 산책을 위해 많은 시민들이 찾는 의정부시의 대표적인 개방형 복합문화공간이라고 했다.

상설야외무대는 의정부음악극축제, 블랙뮤직페스티벌, 별빛여울축제, 의정부칸타빌레 등 의정부시 대표 지역축제의 야외 공연장으로써 다채로운 공연을 개최해 왔고, 넓은 광장을 활용해 단오제 씨름왕선발대회, 김장나누기 행사, 여름철풍수해재난대응 모의훈련 등 다양한 행사를 개최해 지역의 주요 행사와 공연장소로 자리매김하고 있다고 했다.

상설야외무대에서 펼쳐진 사업은 개방된 공연․행사인 만큼 누구나 쉽게 참여할 수 있어 시민들의 호응이 높았으며, 무대 앞 광장은 인근 농구코트, 게이트볼장, 백석천 등과 함께 시민들이 다양하게 즐길 수 있는 무대라고 했다

그러나, 준공 후 18년이 지나면서 무대 곳곳에 페인트가 벗겨지고, 부속 건물 누수, 분장실 등 공간 협소, 전기시설 노후 등 시설 보수가 시급하다는 지적이 나왔다고 했다. 

의정부시는 안전사고 예방 및 시설 활용도를 높이기 위해 2020년 2월 설계용역과 경기도 특별조정교부금 10억 원을 확보해 공사를 진행했다고 전했다. 

지난 9월에 마무리된 리모델링 공사를 통해 기존 부속건물을 증축하여 대기실, 분장실, 다목적강당, 물품보관 창고 공간을 확보하고, 야외무대 재도색, 바닥보수, 천장 보강 등을 통해 쾌적하고 안전한 무대공간으로 새단장했다고 했다.

아울러 의정부시는 상설야외무대 복합관람석 건립 타당성 조사를 진행했다. 현재 상설야외무대는 관람석이 없어 각종 행사 때마다 의자를 설치해야 하고, 우천 시 행사가 연기되거나 취소되는 등 행사 추진에 어려움이 있었다고 전했다. 

이러한 야외무대 이용의 불편함을 해소하고 시민들이 편안하게 관람하고 소통할 수 있는 커뮤니티 공간으로 이용을 활성화시키기 위해 관람석 건립의 타당성을 검토하고 기본방향을 도출했다. 향후 타당성 조사 결과를 바탕으로 구체적인 복합관람석 건립을 구상하고 시민들에게 사랑받는 공간으로 거듭날 수 있도록 지속적으로 개선해 나갈 계획이라고 밝혔다. 

안병용 의정부시장은 “상설야외무대가 새단장을 한 만큼 앞으로 다양한 문화행사를 펼쳐 시민들에게 즐거움을 줄 수 있는 공간이 되길 기대하며, 문화시설에 대한 지속적인 관리로 문화를 통해 의정부시의 가치를 높이고 지역 문화예술 저변 확대에 기여할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
