[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 평창군은 동계전지훈련에 돌입한 선수들로 북적이며 지역경제 활성화와 스포츠 마케팅 고장 이미지 제고에 기여하고 있다고 밝혔다. 

그중 대한레슬링협회에서 주관하는 레슬링 국가대표 상비군 훈련은 지난 1월 9일부터 15일간 일정으로 국가대표, 국가대표후보, 국가대표 상비군 이외에 전국 대학, 실업팀 등 300여명이 평창에서 겨울 훈련을 실시할 계획이며, 레슬링 종목이 평창을 찾은 것은 벌써 10년째로 이번 훈련은 역대 가장 큰 규모로 진행하는 훈련캠프이며, 2022년 중국 항저우 아시안게임을 준비하는 평창군청 레슬링팀에게도 값진 경험이 될 것으로 보인다고 했다. 

한편 2022년 동계기간 동안 평창에는 레슬링을 시작으로 8종목, 72팀 1,000명의 선수들이 전지훈련을 실시할 계획으로, 연인원으로는 2만 명에 이르는 숫자이며, 태권도 12개 팀 224여명, 농구 7개팀 140여명, 바이애슬론 18개 팀 122명, 스키 6개 팀 47명, 럭비 3팀 90여 명 등 규모 있는 선수단과 함께 조정, 야구와 같은 신규 종목도 유치했다고 전했다.

이처럼 평창이 동계전지훈련지로 각광 받는 데는 생체리듬에 최적화된 평균 해발고도 700m의 지형적 이점과 맛깔스런 향토 음식, 무엇보다 적극적인 시설확충과 꾸준한 대외 홍보를 통한 수년간의 노력 덕분인 것으로 보인다고 했다.

최영훈 행정지원국장은 “전지훈련을 위해 평창을 방문해 주신 선수단에 감사의 말씀을 드리며, 모든 선수가 경기력을 향상시키는데 불편함이 없도록 행정지원 등 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.

한편, 2021년에는 레슬링, 축구, 동계종목 등 10개 종목 190개 팀 연인원 52,877명의 선수들이 평창을 다녀가 26억5천여만 원의 경제효과를 거두었다고 했다.
