[김현우 기자 = 속초시] 속초시는  2020년 2월 이후 금지됐던 크루즈선을 통한 외국인 여행객의 국내 입국과 하선 관광을 지난 24일부터 정상적으로 재개한다고 밝혔다. 

이번 조치를 시작으로 속초시는 선제적 기반시설 정비와 크루즈 유치활동 등을 통해, 크루즈 산업과 지역 상권이 활력을 되찾을 수 있도록 적극 준비해 나간다는 계획이다. 

먼저, 속초시는 강원도와 함께 속초항국제크루즈터미널 확장공사를 통해 터미널 입·출국 통로 및 CIQ 업무공간을 추가 확보 등 변화하는 크루즈 입항여건에 미리 대비할 예정이며, 내년 2월까지 공사를 준공하고 시범운영에 들어간다.

또한 속초항 국적크루즈 유치와 관련, 속초항을 모항으로 하는 국적·외국적 크루즈를 선사 유치를 위해 운항선사의 추진상황을 지속적으로 모니터링하고 있으며, 사업이 성공적으로 시작될 수 있도록 힘쓸 예정이다.

이와 더불어 외국적 크루즈 유치에도 적극적으로 나서 2023년에는 11만 톤급 코스타 세레나 호(5회)와 2만 9천 톤급(2회) 등 총 7회의 외국적 크루즈가 입항 예정으로 있으며, 이번 정부의 크루즈 관광 입항 금지 해제로 인해 더욱 많은 외국적 크루즈를 유치할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다. 

이병선 속초시장은 지난 24일 속초시를 방문한 강원도관광재단 강옥희 대표이사를 접견한 자리에서 크루즈 관광에 대한 속초시의 노력과 비전을 설명하고 도 차원의 적극적인 협조를 당부하는 한편, “코로나19로 얼어 붙어 있던 크루즈 관광산업이 이번 정부의 크루즈 관광 정상화로 드디어 새 국면을 맞게 되었다.”라고 밝혔다.

또한, “이미 아시아를 제외한 전세계적으로 크루즈가 활발히 재개되고 있는 만큼 크루즈 관광산업과 지역경제 활성화에 행정력을 최대한 집중하겠다.”라고 덧붙였다.
