[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 오는 7월 29일부터 홍천군 여름 대표축제인 ‘제26회 홍천찰옥수수축제’가 31일까지 사흘간 홍천읍 강변 일원에서 대면 행사로 개최된다고 밝혔다.

홍천군과 (재)홍천문화재단이 주최·주관하는 제26회 홍천찰옥수수축제는 홍천찰옥수수 판매 및 옥수수 전통문화 체험, 전통 먹거리 체험장, 옥수수관련 체험 등 다채롭게 진행된다.

이번 홍천찰옥수수축제는 코로나19로 인해 지난 2019년 이후 3년 만에 개최되어 행사에 거는 기대감 또한 커지고 있으며 오는 7월 29일 오전 10시 개장식 행사에서는 홍천찰옥수수 왕 시상식과 지역 동아리 버스킹 공연, 26주년 기념 이벤트, 옥수수 빨리 먹기, 옥수수 껍질 까기, 옥수수 투호 등 방문객과 함께 즐길 수 있는 다양한 프로그램도 진행된다. 

생 옥수수는 미백 개당 600원, 점찰 개당 700원에 판매되며, 삶은 옥수수는 개당 1,000원에 판매되며 택배비는 별도다.

신영재 홍천군수는 “그동안 축소됐던 홍천찰옥수수축제가 다시 대면 행사로 진행되어 감회가 새롭다”며 “침체된 지역 경기에도 활력을 불어넣는 계기가 되길 기대한다”고 말했다.

한편 홍천찰옥수수는 올해 3,700여개 농가 1,022ha에서 재배되고 있으며, 지난 6월 말부터 출하를 시작해 오는 10월 중순까지 출하될 예정이며 특히 올해는 생육초기 저온과 가뭄, 수정기 잦은 강우로 찰옥수수 재배관리에 어려움이 많았으나 일조시간이 738.8시간으로 전년 대비 89.4시간이 많아 쫀득함과 단맛이 훨씬 뛰어나다.
