[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 오는 19일부터 고성군은 5년 이상 장기 거주불명자를 대상으로 ‘2022년 주민등록 장기 거주불명자 사실조사‘를 실시한다고 밝혔다.

거주불명 등록 제도는, 무단전출 등으로 주민등록이 직권 말소된 주민도 각종 사회보장 혜택과 사회안전망으로부터 보호받을 수 있도록 지난 2009년에 도입됐으며, 제도 도입 후 사망 및 국적상실 등으로 미신고한 거주불명자 수가 증가함에 따라 장기 거주불명자의 사후관리와 실태 파악 필요성이 제기돼, 지난해 사실조사가 처음으로 실시됐다.

이번 사실조사는 ’주민등록법‘ 제20조의2 및 동법 시행령 제27조제1항에 근거해 실시하며, 행정안전부에서 대상자를 통보 후 전국 지방자치단체에서 가족관계등록사항 확인 등 사실조사를 통해 직권말소 및 등록 유지를 결정하고 지난해 전국적으로 20만명 중 12만명이 직권말소 조치 됐으며, 고성군의 경우 115명 중 102명이 직권말소 조치됐다.

김창래 종합민원실장은 “장기 거주불명자를 지속적으로 관리해 주민등록 시스템과 실제 거주자와의 차이를 최소화하고 주민등록 인구의 정확성을 높이겠다”고 말했다.
