준공식은 개회, 경과보고에 이어 기념사, 축사, 테이트 커팅식, 시설 관람  등의 순으로 진행됐고, 태백시는 총사업비 496백만 원을 투입해 장성동 22-3번지에 신축한 메밀뜰 경로당은 연면적 99㎡, 철근콘크리트 구조이며, 올 6월 착공하여 오늘 준공식을 하게 됐다고 했다.

그동안 마을 주택을 경로당으로 사용하다 보니 노후되고 공간이 협소하여 어르신 이용에 많은 불편이 있었으나, 이번 경로당 신축으로 행복한 노년을 위한 다양한 여가 프로그램 운영도 가능하게 됐다고 했다.

태백시장은 “어르신들의 숙원이었던 경로당 준공이 있기까지 기다려 주시고 공사 중 불편함에도 협조해 주신 주민들에게 감사의 마음을 전하며, 메밀뜰 경로당이 어르신들 생활의 중심이 되어 서로 의지하고 화합하며 즐겁게 시간을 보낼 수 있는 공간이 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.
