[김준호 기자=동해시] 동해시 보훈회관은 1995년 준공되어 공간 협소 및 편의시설이 부족해 고령의 회원들이 이용하거나 다양한 프로그램을 추진하는 데 한계가 있었다.

이에따라, 시는 동해지역 국가유공자의 헌신과 공헌에 대한 예우와 보훈단체 간 유대감 및 결속감을 강화하기 위하여 보훈복지회관 이전신축 사업을 추진하게 됐다.

보훈복지회관은 용정동 4-9번지 일대에 총 64억원(특별교부세 10억원, 특별조정교부금 4억원, 시비 50억원)을 투입하여, 지하1층, 지상 3층, 연면적 1,715.73㎡ 규모로 건립된다.

단체별 사무실, 프로그램실, 대회의실, 건강관리실, 열린카페, 등 다양한 복지·편의시설이 설치되며, 내년 3월 준공 및 입주 예정으로 지난 6일 착공신고를 완료하고 본격적인 추진에 나섰다 

심규언 시장은 “국가보훈대상자의 영예로운 삶을 지원하고, 위훈을 널리 선양하겠다”고 밝혔다.
