[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 국민의힘 김명기 강원도지사 후보가 제8회 전국동시지방선거 강원도 횡성군수 선거에서 3전4기 끝에 제46대(민선8기) 횡성군수에 당선됐다.

이번 선거에서 김 당선인은 13,659표(득표율 50.35%)를 얻어, 13,169표(득표율 48.54%)를 얻은 더불어민주당 장신상 후보를 490표 차이로 누르고 3전4기 끝에 횡성군청에 입성하게됐다.

김명기 당선인은 "믿고 지지해 준 모든 군민께 감사 드린다"며 "치열했던 선거과정의 갈등을 빠른 시일내 털어내고 군민 대통합과 부자 농촌 횡성, 예산 1조원 시대를 열어 나가겠다"고 당선 소감을 말했다.

김 당선인은 농협중앙회 축산경제 상무·강원본부장을 역임하고 농협정보시스템 대표이사를 지냈고 지역에선 그를 경영전문가로 평가했다. 이를 토대로  2010·2014·2018 지방선거 횡성군수 후보로 출마했지만 모두 낙선했다. 이번 선거에 4번째로 도전하며 3전4기라는 별명까지 얻었으나 당선되며 꽃다발을 목에 걸었다.

한편, 김 당선인은 예비후보시절인 지난 5월11일 본지와 인터뷰를 통해 "이번에 횡성군민들이 대통령 윤석열 대통령 뽑아주셨고 유상범 국회의원을 뽑아주셨습니다. 저와 함께 힘을 합쳐서 5천억 규모의 횡성군 예산 규모를 1조 원으로 늘려서 횡성 지역 경제 확실히 바꿔내도록 횡성경제 확실하게 살려내겠습니다."라고 말하며 예산 1조 공약을 밝힌바 있다.
