[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 26일, 교육부는 평생학습도시 재지정 평가 결과, 도내에서는 화천군을 비롯한 7개 지자체에 대한 재지정을 결정했다고 밝혔다. 

‘교육행복 도시’를 표방하고 있는 화천군이 오는 2025년까지 교육부 지정 평생학습도시 지위를 이어간다고 전했다. 

교육부는 지난 2001년부터 평생학습도시를 대상으로 평생교육 기반조성, 사업 컨설팅 등 지역 평생교육 진흥을 지원해오고 있으며, 이번 평가는 지난 2019년부터 2021년까지, 3년 간 10개 평가분야와 13개 평가지표, 20개 세부평가지표에 걸쳐 진행됐고, 교육부는 2025년 2주기 평가에서 각 지표를 추가 조정해 다시 한 번 재지정 평가를 실시할 예정이라고 했다. 

화천군은 지난 2006년 삼척시와 함께 도내에서는 처음으로 평생학습도시로 지정돼 3년 간 총 6억원의 예산을 지원받은 바 있으며, 화천군의 평생교육 시스템은 대도시 못지 않은 추진 체계를 갖추고, 군민들의 배움에 대한 목마름을 해갈시켜주고 있다고 했다. 

실제 화천지역에서는 영·유아에서부터 초등~중등~고등학생은 물론 남녀 성인과 고령주민까지, 전 생애별 사이클에 맞는 교육 프로그램이 철저히 수요자 중심으로 수행되고, 영·유아와 미취학 아동을 위한 책놀이, 창의미술, 키즈영어·키즈문화 아카데미 교육은 화천어린이도서관과 사내도서관 등 공공도서관과 화천학습센터, 사내종합문화센터 등을 중심으로 진행되고 있다고 전했다. 

중·고교생들은 양준혁, 서장훈, 이영표 등 스포츠 스타를 비롯해 유명 강사, 뮤지컬 배우 등 국내 각 분야 최정상급 전문가들을 만나 진로탐색에 대한 조언을 얻고, 화천군의 지원으로 학교 동아리 활동을 즐기고 있으며, 이 밖에도 청소년 오케스트라, 외국어 아카데미(영어‧중국어), 토요 여가체험, 스포츠 교실 등 원하는 교육은 온라인 수강신청을 통해 손쉽게 접하고 있다고 했다. 

수십여개 분야의 평생교육강좌가 수요조사를 통해 연중 열리고, 형편이 어려워 글을 배우지 못한 어르신들을 위해서는 찾아가는 성인문해교실이 매년 각 지역에서 진행되고 있다고 전했다. 

서명옥 군교육복지과장은 “화천군의 평생학습은 철저한 수요자 중심, 체험 위주의 현실감있는 방식으로 진행되고 있다”며 “사후 관리와 수강생 피드백을 통한 프로그램의 끊임없는 개선으로 주민들의 만족도를 높여주고 있다”고 했다.
