[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 14일 양주시는 양주시청 상황실에서 기후 위기를 극복하고 탄소중립 그린도시로의 성공적인 전환을 이루기 위해 한국전력공사와 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이날 협약식에는 양주시 일자리환경국장, 한전 경기북부본부 전력사업처장 등 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 탄소중립을 위한 국민적 합의와 공감대 확산, 탈 탄소사회로의 대전환을 성공적으로 이루기 위해 지자체·공기업 기반 선도적 역할 수행에 적극 협력하기로 합의했다고 했다.

양 기관은 협약에 따라 탄소중립을 위한 국민적 합의와 공감대 확산을 위한 상호 소통, 지속 가능한 발전과 탄소중립 실현을 위한 사업발굴·지원과 최우선 추진, 에너지효율 향상사업의 공동 추진을 통한 탄소중립 이행, 탄소중립 실천과 홍보 협력을 통한 시민운동 실천 확산 등을 공유하고 적극 협력하게 된다고 전했다.

양주시 관계자는 “저탄소 사회로의 패러다임 전환에 발맞춰 대표 에너지기업의 전문지식과 기초지자체의 행정력 지원으로 탄소중립에 선도적 역할을 수행하기 될 것”이라며 “앞으로도 활발한 상호협력을 통해 점점 증가하는 탄소중립에 대한 사회적 요구를 충족시킬 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
