[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 태백시는 지난해에 이어 올해에도 음식물쓰레기 감량과 쾌적한 주거환경 개선을 위해 공동주택 대상으로 RFID 종량기 설치를 확대한다고 밝혔다.

RFID 종량기는 개별인식카드를 이용해 세대별로 배출한 음식물쓰레기를 자동계량하고 배출한 만큼 수수료를 부과하는 방식이라고 했다.

태백시는 수요조사를 통해 공동주택에 20대 설치·지원할 계획이며, 올해 말에는 RFID 종량기 설치 공동주택과 감량의무 사업장을 대상으로 종량제 봉투와 음식물 수수료 감면 등 인센티브를 제공할 예정이라고 전했다.

설치를 희망하는 공동주택은 신청서와 함께 입주대표회의 동의서 사본을 환경과 생활환경팀으로 방문 제출하면 된다고 전했다.

지원조건은 종량기는 설치일로부터 5년 동안 의무사용, 기본 납부필증의 방식으로 음식물류 폐기물 배출 불가, 세대별 수수료 부과 시 관리사무소에서 통합 부과·징수가 가능한 단지라고 했다.

태백시 관계자는 “종량기 설치를 통해 관내 음식물 쓰레기를 감량하고 주거환경을 개선하는 효과를 기대한다”며 “아직 설치되지 않은 공동주택의 적극적인 관심과 참여를 바란다”고 말했다.

한편, 태백시는 지난해 공동주택 음식물쓰레기 종량기 시범사업을 추진해 6대의 종량기를 설치·운영했으며, 설치전과 비교할 때 음식물쓰레기 배출량이 47% 감소했다고 밝혔다.
