[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 29일 동해시는 지역의 농산물을 주원료로 한 지역특산주 개발을 위해 농업회사 ㈜더담과 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

동해시는 지역에 가장 많은 재배면적을 가지고 있는 벼농사를 기반으로, 지역 쌀을 이용한 전통주를 동해시 관광자원과 연계하기 위해 동해시 농산물가공지원센터 내에 전통주 가공실을 설치했으며, 지난 11월 전통주 가공실 운영자로 선정된 ㈜더담과 이번 업무협약을 체결함으로써 본격적인 지역특산주 개발 및 발굴에 나설 계획이라고 했다. 

이번 업무협약으로, 동해시는 지역특산주 발굴을 위한 지리적, 지역적, 문화적 요소 등 기초자료를 함께 공유하고, 원활한 동해시 쌀 원료 공급지원을 위해 쌀 생산 농가와의 가교 역할을 수행하게 된다고 했다.

또, 이를 통해 벼 재배농가의 소득증진과 더불어 관광 먹거리를 통한 지역경제 활성화도 도모할 방침이라고 전했다.

이경희 ㈜ 더담 대표는 “그동안 지역의 쌀과 부산물 등을 원료로 연구해온 결과들을 전통주 가공실 입주를 통해 역량을 발휘할 기회가 주어졌다고 생각한다”며, “프리미업급 지역특산주가 성장세를 보이고 있는 현시점에 동해시 관광자원과 연계시킬 수 있는 지역특산주를 개발하여 지역경제에 이바지하도록 노력하겠다”라고 포부를 밝혔다.

한편, ㈜더담은 동해시 농산물가공지원센터에 오는 30일부터 입주해 3년간 업무협약에 따른 전통주 개발·제조·생산에 박차를 가할 예정이라고 했다.
