[김택곤 기자=영월군] 영월군이 환경부에서 주관하는 ‘홍수에 안전한 지역맞춤형 통합하천사업’ 선도사업 대상지로 선정되었다.

최근의 기후 변화와 하천 공간에 대한 국민들의 수요 증가에 대처하기 위해 환경부에서 새롭게 시작한 본 사업은 홍수 안전을 확보하면서 하천을 여가와 휴식의 친수공간으로 조성하는 사업으로 최종 대상지 22곳 중 강원도에서는 영월군이 유일하게 선정되었다.

특히 이번 계획에는 영월 저류지를 영월군만의 차별화된 문화 플랫폼으로 조성한다는 계획도 포함되어 있어 4대강 사업 이후 오랫동안 방치되었던 강변 저류지의 변화도 기대를 모으고 있다. 

영월군에서는 내년말까지 세부적인 조성계획을 마련하고 2024년부터 총 950억원의 예산을 투입해 단계적으로 추진하게 된다.

최명서 영월군수는 ‘이번 공모사업 선정을 계기로 동서강 일대를 홍수에 안전하면서도 여가와 휴식을 즐길 수 있는 복합문화공간으로 조성, 영월읍 전역을 명실상부한 정원도시이자 수도권의 야외정원으로 만들어 가겠다’고 포부를 밝혔다.
