긴급차량 우신신호 시스템은 시 전지역의 신호교차로를 ITS 관제센터를 통해 제어 운영하는 방식으로 2026 ITS 세계총회 현지실사에서 아·태사무국으로부터 호평을 받은 시스템이다.

이 시스템은 구급차, 소방차 등 긴급차량 출동 시 차량의 위치를 위성위치확인시스템(GPS)으로 추적해 차량이 출동 경로 내 교차로를 통과할 때까지 신호등을 녹색 신호로 연장하는 방식으로 운영된다.

강릉경찰서, 강원도 소방본부 및 강릉소방서와의 협업을 통해 상황실 신고접수 후 기존 긴급차량의 출동단말기(MDT)로 사고 위치가 전송되고 최적의 출동 경로 설정 후 ITS 관제센터를 통해 긴급차량의 교차로 통과까지 신호등을 온라인으로 제어하는 방식이다.

시스템의 원활한 운영을 위해 강릉시는 신호제어기·신호등 등 현장설비와 센터시스템을 운영·관리하고, 강릉경찰서는 긴급차량 우선 신호 운영에 따른 신호제어 및 현장 대응에 협력하며, 강릉소방서는 긴급차량 우선신호를 활용해 사고현장 및 병원으로 신속히 이동하여 골든타임을 확보하게 된다.

강릉시 관계자는 “긴급차량 우선신호 시스템 운영을 위한 유관기관 협력체계 가동으로 2026 ITS 세계총회 성공 개최와 스마트한 교통안전도시 만들기에 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다”고 밝혔다.
