[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 양주시가 지난 1일 지역 내 위기가구 발굴·지원을 위해 11개 읍면동별로 명예사회복지공무원 263명을 추가 위촉하고 복지 안전망 강화에 나선다고 밝혔다.

양주시 명예사회복지공무원은 일상생활 중 위기가구를 발견한 경우 관할 읍면동 행정복지센터로 신속하게 제보하고 복지정보 등을 제공하는 활동에 자발적으로 참여하는 무보수·명예직 봉사자를 말한다.

이번에 추가 위촉된 명예사회복지공무원은 주민의 실생활에 맞닿아 있어 위기 징후를 보다 빠르게 포착할 수 있는 아파트 관리사무소 소장, 공인중개사 등 생활업종 종사자와 경찰, 사회복지시설 종사자 등 신고의무자, 읍면동 사회단체 회원 등 총 263명으로 구성됐다.

이들은 신체적·정신적·경제적 어려움이 있으나 지원을 받지 못하는 가구, 장기간 외출을 하지 못하는 사회적 고립가구, 주거환경이 열악한 가구 등 위기상황으로 예상되거나 어려움을 호소하는 주민을 조기 발견하고 맞춤형 복지서비스를 제공받을 수 있도록 조력하는 역할을 수행하게 된다.

명예사회복지공무원 활동기간은 총 3년이며 오는 2025년 9월 30일까지 임기를 갖는다.

양주시 관계자는 “지역 사정에 밝고 이웃과 자주 만나는 생활업종에 종사하는 분들이 명예사회복지공무원으로 위촉된 만큼 그 역할을 충실히 해주실 것으로 기대된다”며 “지역사회 내 촘촘한 복지안전망 강화를 통해 숨은 취약계층을 발굴·보호할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 양주시는 기존 명예사회복지공무원 455명에서 읍면동별로 263명을 추가 위촉해 총 718명의 인적 안전망을 구축, 복지 사각지대 제로화에 박차를 가할 예정이다.
