이번 생필품과 카네이션을 후원한 동두천 우체국은 매년 사회공헌활동으로 독거어르신들을 위한 후원을 지속하며, 관내 어르신들의 건강과 안부도 챙기고 있으며, 지난해까지는 어르신 가정을 함께 방문하여 담소도 나누었으나, 올해는 코로나19와 사회적 거리두기 지침으로 인해 동참하지 못해, 큰 아쉬움을 보였다고 했다.  

동두천 우체국 박종화 국장은 “이번 어버이날 지원이 어르신들께 조금이나마 힘이 됐으면 좋겠고, 특히 외로운 어르신들이 없으시길 바란다” 는 후원의 의미와 따뜻한 마음을 전했다.

카네이션 및 선물세트를 받은 어르신들은 “올해 어버이날도 쓸쓸하게 보내게 되어, 마음 한 구석 서러웠는데, 너무 감사하다”며, 뜻밖의 어버이날 방문에 놀라움과 기쁨을 보였다.  

강창운 관장은 “동두천시 어르신들이 건강하고 행복한 삶을 이어나가실 수 있도록 더욱 노력하겠으며, 앞으로도 다양한 기관들이 힘을 모아 코로나19라는 상황을 이기고, 좋은 일에 동참하면 좋겠다”라며 “많은 분들의 관심과 협조를 요청드린다”고 덧붙였다.
