현재 동물보호법에 의거 반려견은 미등록 시 100만원 이하의 과태료 부과 대상이며, 반려견 동물등록을 원하는 반려인은 생후 2개월 이상 된 반려견에 대한 동물등록 신청서를 읍·면 산업팀 또는 군 축산정책과 동물복지팀에 제출하면 되고, 신청서를 접수받은 군은 관내 공개업 수의사를 읍·면당 1명씩 배치하여 마을을 순회하며 동물등록을 실시한다고 전했다.

등록 신청한 반려인은 시술비 1만 원만 부담하면 반려견에 대해 내장형 등록이 가능하며, 올해 총 사업량은 1000마리이고, 이번 사업은 상·하반기로 나누어 추진하며, 상반기 사업은 오는 3월 2일부터 16일까지 신청하고 3월 21일부터 4월 1일까지 등록이 진행된다거 했다.
