시는 올해 '위드 코로나, 활력 넘치는 지역경제', '지속가능한 도시공간 재창조', '맞춤형 나눔복지, 보편적 교육복지', '다시 찾고 싶은 문화․관광, 스포츠 메카 조성', '누구나 머물며 살고 싶은 쾌적한 환경', '소통하고 신뢰받는 시민 행복도시 구현' 등 6대 추진전략을 중심으로 시정을 추진할 계획이라고 전했다. 

올해 중점적으로 추진되는 사업으로는 산업위기, 인구감소 위기 대응 대비책 마련, 미래 신성장 동력 발굴, 글로벌 산악관광 추진, 천연가스(LNG)발전소 유치 등이 있다고 했다.

태백시장은 “지역내외 급박한 환경변화 속에서 감염병 위기, 인구감소 위기 대응 등 다양한 업무 추진에 있어 공직자로서 중심을 잘 잡고 차질없는 업무추진으로 시민의 안정적 삶에 최선을 다해 줄 것”을 당부하였다고 말했다.
