정윤경 의원은 2020년 7월 경기도의회 교육기획위원장으로 취임한 직후부터 경기유아교육 각계각층 관계자들과 간담회를 통해 유아교육 현장의 목소리를 청취하며 필요한 지원을 모색해 왔다고 했다.

그 결과, 2021년 2월 코로나19로 인한 원격수업 연장 여파로 유아들의 퇴원율이 급격히 증가함에 따라 운영에 타격을 받은 도내 사립유치원 재정 지원을 위해 교원기본급 보조, 학급운영비, 조리종사원 인건비 등에 사용할 수 있는 총 117억 원의 예산을 지원했다고 전했다. 

또한, 2021년 11월 재정적 어려움을 겪고 있는 사립유치원의 안정적 운영을 위해 도내 사립유치원 884개원에 교육활동비 총 44억원의 예산을 지원했으며, 사립유치원 방과후 과정 연장 운영지원을 위한 인건비 등 예산 20억원을 신설하여 18시에서 20시까지 유치원에서 돌봄이 가능하도록 조치하여 위기에 처한 유치원 교육 정상화에 기여했다는 평가를 받았다고 했다.

그 외에도 공립유치원 누리과정 지원금 교육활동비 8만원 중에서 15000원이 급식비로 차용되던 관행을 개선하여 새롭게 공립유치원 급식 지원 예산 81억원을 세워 8만원이 온전히 유아들의 교육활동비로 사용될 수 있도록 지원하는 등 유아교육의 질 제고에 심혈을 기울였다고 했다. 

정윤경 의원은 “코로나19 장기화 속에서 국가의 미래가 달려있는 유아교육이 멈추지 않고 나아갈 수 있도록 지원하는데 최선을 다하는 마음으로 현장의 긴요한 필요에 응답하고자 노력한 것 뿐인데, 이렇게 감사패를 받아 감사할 따름”이라고 소감을 밝히면서 “향후에도 유아교육은 어떤 상황에서도 최우선 지원될 수 있도록 교육기획위원장으로서 더욱 관심을 갖고 살펴보면서 정책적 노력을 기울이겠다”고 소회를 밝혔다.
